GLOW: Guiding the Little Ones’ Well-Being, a groundbreaking book written by Dr. K. Vadivelan, a professor at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (SRM MCH&RC), Kattankulathur, was published by SRM College of Physiotherapy on December 10, 2024. This book, which was financed by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), is an essential tool for parents to keep track of their children’s developmental milestones between the ages of 0 and 12 months.
A user-friendly app called Parental Eye was unveiled at the event. The book GLOW: Guiding the Little Ones’ Well-Being is enhanced by this resource. An important element in fostering child well-being is the app’s provision of real-time information, tools, and advice to parents and carers so they can monitor their kid’s developmental milestones.
GLOW gives parents evidence-based, approachable advice while streamlining the intricate process of developmental tracking. By empowering parents to recognise developmental delays early on, the book opens the door for prompt treatments that favourably impact a child’s future.
The basis for a child’s cognitive, physical, and emotional development is laid throughout their formative years. The primary investigator of the ICMR-funded project, Dr. Vadivelan, states that GLOW seeks to close the awareness gap by giving parents the information they require to promote their child’s wellbeing.
As the Chief Guest, Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, a member of NITI Aayog, graced the occasion. Dr. Saraswat, who shared his own expertise in the medical sector, said, “I have witnessed the importance of physiotherapy since 1982 and have experienced its impact in my own life.”
In his Presidential Address, Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Pro-Chancellor (Academics) of SRMIST, highlighted the community-serving achievements of SRM College of Physiotherapy at SRM MCH&RC. “This is an invaluable tool that will help a great number of children,” he said. The department works exceptionally well, and its graduates are becoming highly successful professionals in sports medicine and other domains in India and around the world.
Registrar Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Pro Vice-Chancellor (MHS) In-charge and Dean (MHS) Dr. Nitin M. Nagarkar, Dean of SRM College of Physiotherapy Dr. T. S. Veeragoudhaman, and Vice Chancellor Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan of SRMIST were present at the event.
To address childhood developmental delays, GLOW is a component of an interdisciplinary research project supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). SRMIST’s dedication to societal well-being through innovation and research excellence is demonstrated by its collaborative research methodology.
