Indian Institute of Technology Madras Unveils 25th Edition of Shaastra Tech Fest

The inauguration of the 25th edition of Shaastra, the highly anticipated annual techno-entertainment festival orchestrated by students at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). Spanning from 3rd to 7th January 2024, this year’s festival promises a compelling roster of 110 events, spanning cutting-edge technologies like cybersecurity, AI, ML, robotics, and more.

In its Silver Jubilee edition, Shaastra 2024 will delve into the theme ‘Spokes of Time,’ offering reflections on the technological evolution of the past 25 years. Anticipating a distinctive and unforgettable experience, participants and spectators alike are poised for an event symbolizing innovation, knowledge, and inspiration.

During today’s on-campus press conference, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, underscored the pivotal role of innovation in propelling India toward technological prowess by 2047. He noted, “These technical festivals provide a unique platform for young innovators to meet, share, and compete, resulting in a very detailed valuation of their innovations.”


Expecting a robust daily footfall of nearly 2,000 participants, Shaastra 2024 boasts the participation of 5-10 companies in the industry academia competition. The coordination team, consisting of 500-600 members, ensures the seamless execution of events. The festival’s distinguished speaker lineup includes Shri Ram Nath Kovind, Former President of India, Thiru. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Hon’ble Minister of IT and Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Dr. Kiran Bedi, IPS, Former Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry.

Key events to look forward to comprise the Ethical Tech Summit, Encryptcon 2024, Lecture Series, and Techno Night at Shaastra.

In a special segment, the inaugural day is dedicated to school students under the name Shaastra Junior, presenting a tailored program designed to engage and cater to their specific interests.

On this inaugural day, Dr. V. Adimurthy, distinguished ISRO professor and Padma Shri Awardee, captivated the audience, accompanied by a session featuring Paralympic Swimmer Mr. Punith Nanda Kumar. Tomorrow, on the 4th of January 2024, Day 2 will commence with a keynote address from Shri Ram Nath Kovind, followed by an engaging Fireside Chat with Thir Palanivel Thiaga Rajan.

As Shaastra 2024 unfolds, it promises to be a jubilant celebration of technological innovation, fostering collaboration among students, industry professionals, and esteemed thought leaders.
