Cabinet Clears Major Highway Projects Worth Over ₹15,000 Crore as India Strengthens Connectivity and Economic Growth

India Pushes Forward with Massive Infrastructure Expansion

In a significant boost to India’s infrastructure development agenda, the Union Cabinet approved multiple national highway projects across Telangana, Odisha, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. The projects, collectively worth more than ₹15,000 crore, are expected to improve regional connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and support economic growth.

Among the major approvals was the widening of the Armoor–Jagtial–Mancherial section of NH-63 and the Jagtial–Karimnagar section of NH-563 in Telangana, covering 190.76 kilometers at an estimated cost of ₹7,597.16 crore.

The Cabinet also approved the construction of a new coastal highway connecting Rameshwar and Paradeep in Odisha. The 163.18-kilometer project will strengthen coastal transportation infrastructure and facilitate trade and tourism in eastern India.

In Bihar, the Khagaria–Purnea section of NH-31 and NH-231 will be upgraded to four-lane standards with an investment of ₹3,936.05 crore, while key stretches of NH-347B in Madhya Pradesh will undergo significant upgrades under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM).


UPI Goes Global: India Expands Digital Payments to Cambodia

India’s digital payment ecosystem achieved another milestone as NPCI International partnered with ACLEDA Bank to launch cross-border UPI payments in Cambodia through the country’s KHQR platform.

The initiative enables Indian travelers and businesses to make seamless QR-based payments abroad, further strengthening India’s position as a global leader in digital public infrastructure.


India Deepens Global Economic and Technology Partnerships

India and South Africa agreed to enhance cooperation in future technologies, focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI), advanced manufacturing, and digital infrastructure.

Additionally, the India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) officially came into force on June 1, 2026, opening new opportunities for trade, investment, and economic collaboration between the two nations.

India also continues discussions with the United States regarding Section 301 proceedings and the finalization of a broader trade framework agreement.


Prime Minister Highlights Unity, Yoga, and National Development

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam emphasizing the values of unity, mutual cooperation, and collective determination.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the growing international appeal of Yoga as the First World Yogasana Sports Championship commenced in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Separately, he congratulated Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on assuming their respective offices.


Focus on Tribal Welfare and Social Inclusion

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated a National Conclave aimed at strengthening Integrated Tribal Development Agencies (ITDAs) and Integrated Tribal Development Projects (ITDPs).

The event focused on improving tribal governance, welfare delivery mechanisms, and developmental outcomes as part of the broader Viksit Bharat vision.

Meanwhile, the Central Advisory Committee conducted a high-level review of the PM-AJAY scheme and outlined strategies for accelerating socio-economic development among Scheduled Castes.


Sports, Youth Development, and Skill Building Receive Fresh Momentum

On World Bicycle Day 2026, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya led a cycling event promoting fitness and sustainable mobility.

The National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SGT University to advance sports science, anti-doping research, and athlete welfare.

The government also invited applications for appointments to the National Sports Tribunal, while MY Bharat launched the Viksit Vibrant Village Program 2026 to encourage youth participation in border villages across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh.


Innovation and Healthcare: Breakthrough in Cancer Research

Scientists reported progress in next-generation nanomedicine capable of silencing critical cancer-driving mechanisms. The breakthrough has the potential to transform targeted cancer therapies and improve treatment outcomes in the future.


Financial Awareness and Education Initiatives

Investor education received a boost as IEPFA and SEBI announced a Niveshak Shivir in Bhopal to help investors resolve issues related to unclaimed dividends, shares, and financial literacy.

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) also opened admissions for its MA and PG Diploma programmes, expanding opportunities for students seeking careers in media and communication.
