Seven Awards Adorn SRMIST Within A Short Span

The name of SRM Institute of Technology (SRMIST) has once again reached the skies. Awards from reputed organisations have adorned the popular institution.

Seven different awards from various agencies have been bestowed upon SRMIST in  the last 20 to 25 days, said P Sathyanarayanan, president of SRMIST while speaking to press persons at educational institution’s Kattankulathur campus on 9 December.

‘These rankings have come to us from organisations whose credibility is no less worthy.’ They have enhanced the name and fame of our educational institution on national and global level, he said.

STEM Impact Award, Green Metric Award, Swachchta Awards are among the prestigious awards SRMIST has won, he said.
These awards are due to good work done by SRMIST on various fronts.

Good work done in the areas of research, environment conservation, promoting academic excellence have paved way for the educational institution to win various awards.

SRMIST gives importance for research, said Sathyanarayanan. About 150 faculty members are appointed for taking up research work. About 200 patents are already filed. Target is to achieve more.

University Research Council was also established to give boost to research work, seven percent of our budget is allocated for research, he said.

Sandeep Sancheti, vice-chancellor, SRMIST said on the environment front various measures were taken. Battery vehicles are operated for transportation within the campus, sensor based washbasins were established to help water conservation. Usage of solar power is being promoted in a big way. About 89 pits were dug across the SRMIST premises to harness rainwater.

Regular activities are being taken up on the academic front also to promote excellence there.

SRMIST won STEM Impact Award for innovating a cost-effective, microbial fuel cell for bio-electricity generation and heavy metal reduction from environmentally available bio-waste, he said reminding that SRMIST was the only private university to receive this award, others being IIT Kanpur and two CSIR laboratories, he said.

The educational institution also won Green Metric Award in  the category ‘World’s Most Sustainable University.’ This was organised by University of Indonesia, about 780 universities participated in the event globally and 25 universities and institutions were from India.

‘University of the Year Award 2019’ was also presented under the category of 11-30 years old institutes, he said.
